Recreating a Magazine photo

I found a picture from Seventeen and used a speed light with a lamp shade over it and the lamp without the shade a little bit behind my model.

Rip! A Remix Manifesto

I had never thought so much about copyrights before watching this movie. I think just about everyone has broken the law due to copyrighting. It's become such a huge part of our lives we don't even think about it. I also don't think the law makes it clear enough how much it will cost you for breaking these laws. (If you get caught of course). I think it's absolutely ridiculous how much you are charged for each illegally downloaded song. It makes no sense; the song artists really don't seem to care about the situation. It's the record and big name companies that are the bullies.
Our culture is built on remixing and remaking things. I liked the statement in the video of how the past is trying to control the future. How can we move forward when our culture is based on remaking what we already know, when the law restrains us from using anything that's "not ours".
I think it's okay to use other people's works and make it your own idea. What I don't think that's okay is using someone else's work and not making it your own new idea. For example, when photographers take a picture of another photographer's work and call it their own. That really really gets to me. The person didn't even try to make it their own.
There are appropriate and inappropriate ways to use other people's work. I think as long as you use someone else's work and make it your own that's acceptable.

Lighting Practice

I used an external flash for my homework assignment, and I found taking these pictures to be extremely difficult and frustrating. I obviously didn't use a studio, and I only had one tripod. I really should have gotten someone else to help me take these, or take them of another person. Trying to do this by yourself is really annoying and requires a ton of patience.
Overall, I'm not happy with my pictures... but this is just the first time and was for practice, I shall get better!

This next one is one of my favorites:

I like these next few, but some are blurry because I used the bulb setting so I probably moved a bit and my camera probably didn't get focused enough on me.

These last two are backlit:
