Re-Create Image: Project 1

For my project I really want to do a recreation of a Monet painting. I looked up some ideas and I found these:

I found a re-creation someone made of the one above

I really like the painting of the lady and umbrella, I'm thinking of doing that one.

In Monet's paintings everything seems to be in motion and caught in a moment in time. I randomly came across this picture and it started to give me ideas for my recreation:
Wind will be my friend for my photo shoots!

On my second recreation I wanted to make a Da Vinci drawing! I'm getting ideas from these:

I'll use lots of textures and photoshopping to make my model look like a drawing.

When we were introduced the picture by Jeff Wall and Manet's painting, I had no idea they were related at all. I couldn't see the connection or the re-creation and I still don't quite see it. I can understand the man's gaze on a woman and the reflections, but I think everything is too subtle. Maybe Jeff Wall intended his work to be more subtle. If I saw his picture standing alone I would never think of Manet's painting; it's only when they are side by side that I can see the subtle relations. I'm not too impressed with Jeff Wall's work, but that's just my opinion.

The artist of these famous sketches is Leonardo Da Vinci. He didn't always give his sketches names; these are  known as the sketches of a woman. The one on the left actually has been given the name of Testa di Fanciulla detta La Scapigliata, which he did during the Renaissance period. I really enjoy Da Vinci's drawings of women. It's something about the mystery and sweetness of them. Like Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, these women also have a small smile on their faces. I think the mystery is in their eyes because he drew none of them looking at the viewer. The texture of the drawings is lovely as well. Da Vinci uses strong lines to create shapes, leaving the rest to the viewer to finish the image in his or her head. There is not much information on Da Vinci's sketch work. He never really intended to make public his personal sketchbooks, they were for his personal studies.
For my re-creation of Da Vinci's work I had a friend in mind to be my model. I think her face looks a lot like the women in the sketches. The photo I took I did indoors and used an external flash. I had my model pose in the same way for the shoot. I experimented with her looking at the camera and away. I decided on not having her look at the camera because the women in the drawings are looking down. The most work and issues went into the photoshopping of the image. I had many issues getting my image to look like a sketch. I used many layers of filters and a background image of textured paper to get the effect I was looking for. I used the paintbrush to add accented lines as my final touches.

The artist of this painting is Claude Monet, one of my favorite painters, who is from the Impressionist era. This work is called "Woman With a Parasol - Madame Monet and Her Son". All the Monet paintings I came across were of women and children. I think this goes along well with his soft painting style. Women are usually perceived as soft and gentle. The color and the movement are the subjects in Monet's paintings. With Impressionism, black is rarely used and the colors are what the artist feels are present. His brush strokes show the movement of the wind and make the painting appear to be a moment caught in time. This painting is very airy and lighthearted. It makes me feel peaceful and makes me want to visit the location of the painting. All the pastel colors contribute the the peaceful and airy feeling of Monet's painting.
For my recreation of Monet's work i took my pictures outside on a hill. I got lucky with the time of day and ended up with amazing lighting on my model. The downside was there was barely any wind and no clouds. I had my model stand on her tiptoes and had her imagine she was in the Titanic scene with the wind blowing. I also had her flip her dress back to show movement. I added clouds to the background of my image to add interest to the sky. I also added many filters to blur and add a painterly effect to the image. I felt making the image blurry went along with Monet's style because nothing is sharp or in focus. My final touches were lightening up the picture, making sure there were no blacks.
